The countdown for Spring is on, but it never seems to come soon enough!
To help you get your planning started, here’s a lineup of exciting upcoming events worth traveling for this Spring.
The Douro Valley wine country is so incredibly beautiful that it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is best known for its Port Wine, but it has much more to offer than that.
Spring is probably the best season to visit the area, the weather is already warming up, the Almond trees are flowering and the vineyards are starting to show some life.
This time of year, the wine industry is showing off the latest results of the last production, therefore if you’re a wine lover here are some events that will get you on the next plane.
Douro Boys are the best reference if you want to try out the Best Wines. Check out the Wine Sessions at Casa da Música, where a brand of wine and a winemaker join a harmonised and undeniable appeal to the senses. Next wine sessions will be on the 25th April and 30th May.
Spring is also the renaissance of the Arts. The city and the North of Portugal start preparing for the world known Festivals.
One of the most iconic Festivals of the city is the Queima das Fitas, the academic festival. It’s a full week of fun, music and tradition. The Porto festival is happening in the first week of May and if you’re into this kind of “movida”, you can programme your stay in Porto and start to party with Queima da Fitas (4-10 May) in Porto, followed by Enterro da Gata (Cat’s Burial) from 9th to 16th May and Enterro de Aveiro (Aveiro’s Burial) from 11th to 15th May.
If you’re more into the alternative music, check out the INDOURO FEST at Gaia (2-3 May). Bands like Clinic, British Sea Power and Toy will act in one of the most breath taking sites of the city - Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar.
In June arrives, the world known NOS Primavera Sound, the Music festival that started in Barcelona.
