The European Tourism prized Portugal with nine awards! The Algarve, Madeira, Lisbon and the Portuguese Golf were classified as the best in Europe by the World Travel Awards.
Antalya, Turkey, was the scenario for the World Travel Awards gala for the European destinations. During this Turkish evening, Portugal had big reasons to smile, this country raised their winnings from 6 Oscars in 2012 to 9 Oscars in 2013.
Portugal was competing with 41 nominations and won a few of repeated categories from the past: this country was awarded for the best golf destination in Europe and the Algarve carry on the title of the best beach destination. A new award was for Madeira to be considered the best Island destination in Europe and Lisbon was distinguished for being the best urban short break holiday.
The other European World Travel Awards won by Portugal were related to the hotel industry. There are some that stand out between the winners: Vila-Joya (the best boutique hotel), the Conrad (the best European lux resort), Quinta do Lago Hotel (the best golf resort) and the Martinhal (the best villa resort). In Madeira Island the hotel The Vine was distinguish as the best design hotel.
The World Travel Awards have also distinguished the best hotels voted within the country: the Reid’s Palace (best hotel), Quinta do Lago (best resort), Bairro Alto Hotel (best boutique hotel), Ria Park (best business and conference hotel), Martinhal (best family friend resort), Hilton VIlamoura (best golf resort), Tróia Hotel (best hotel residences) Vilalara (best spa hotel) and Mercadore Apartments (best apartments).
Within the big international European winners we can find Yorkshire, England (destination of the year), Lufthansa (best airline company), easyJet (best low-cost airline company), Europcar at Zurich airport (best rent-a-car and responsible tourism award), Orient Express (best lux train), Thomson (best travel agency), Thomas Cook (best tour operator) and Norwegian Cruise Lines (best cruise line company).
Within the international European hotels we have the Ciragan palace Kempinski Istanbul (best hotel), Mardan Palace, Turkey (best lux hotel), Forte Village, Italy (best resort) and Intercontinental (best hotel chain).
The Eiffel Tower won the best touristic attraction award!
Following the after party of the World Travel Awards, this committee is now moving to the Caribbean and North America, Asia and Australia, Africa) but everyone in this industry is looking forward for the big date: 30th November, in Doha, the World Travel Awards will announce the best in the world! Portugal has won in the past 3 world awards (TAP, Vila Joya and Conrad) and after winning the 9 Oscars, its expectations are higher than ever.
