In recent years, Porto<\/a> has experienced a huge boost in tourism. The city opened its doors and is today one of the most popular destinations for those who want to visit Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past few years, it has been awarded several times as the best European destination<\/strong>. In 2020, the city received the title of Europe’s best destination for urban getaways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Douro Wine Region<\/a><\/strong> is a must for anyone who wants to visit Portugal and one of the most recognized regions worldwide. It is here that the Port Wine, so appreciated abroad, is produced. So let yourself be enchanted by the magnificent valleys. The Miradouro de S\u00e3o Leonardo de Galafura, near Peso da R\u00e9gua<\/a>, or the Miradouro da Misarela, in Armamar<\/a>, offer breathtaking views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visiting Portugal and the Douro Wine Region requires a visit to one of the many estates spread across the region. Located on the banks of the Douro, this space adds a touch of modernity to traditional Portuguese food<\/strong>. It is the responsibility of Chef Rui Paula<\/strong>, one of the most prestigious chefs in national cuisine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back at Peso da R\u00e9gua, you can always sweeten your palate with one of the famous Rebu\u00e7ados da R\u00e9gua<\/strong>, made in a traditional way and sold on the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arouca<\/a> is a good destination for those who want to visit Portugal and have greater contact with nature. The Geopark has existed in this region since 2007 and dynamizes the Paiva Walkways<\/a> and Serra da Freita<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Paiva Walkways have given a great tourist boost to the region and are attracting more and more visitors each year. These trails of about 10km integrated into the landscape annually receive hundreds of thousands of visitors. In 2021, the region also inaugurated the 516 Arouca<\/strong> suspension bridge next to the walkways. The longest suspension bridge in the world, measuring 516 meters, offers an impressive view over the Paiva valley. This engineering work directly entered Time’s list as one of the top 100 places in the world<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Serra da Freita you will find another opportunity to enjoy the privileged contact with nature. Here you can find several geosites referenced by the Geopark. One of the highlights is Frecha da Mizarela<\/strong>, the largest waterfall in Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, visiting Portugal is always synonymous with good food. In Arouca you cannot fail to discover the wonders of the region’s gastronomy. From the outset with certified meat of Arouquesa origin<\/strong>. One of the highlights is the kid that is roasted in a wood-fired oven in this region. Convent sweets<\/strong> also have a strong heritage in Arouca, resulting from the Monastery of Santa Maria de Arouca. Sweet chestnuts, tongue delicacies, nun bellies or sweet black puddings are just a few examples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
