Rem Koolhaas designed the building that would become an icon of Oporto – the Casa da Música (House of Music). Currently, it is the main concert hall of the city. Its construction was completed in 2005 and is located in one of the most central locations, in Rotunda da Boavista.
Lou Reed and the Oporto band Clã were the first to break the silence of the building. However, only a day after the President of the Republic, Jorge Sampaio, inaugurated the building. This house was designed to accommodate all musical genres, from electronic music, to jazz, through fado and the synth-pop.
It is an institution that supports projects related to experimentation and new cultural dynamics; promotes events related to the performing arts, meetings and forums to debate issues related to the arts. Its annual program is made public at the beginning of each year, including several concerts by the Symphony Orchestra of Porto Casa da Música. The Casa da Música serves up three bars, open all day, and a restaurant, located on the top floor. Also designed by Rem Koolhaas, The Casa da Música Restaurant has a terrace overlooking the gardens of Boavista and an amazing view over the city. Here you can enjoy a kitchen with author signature, inspired in the world. The joint ticket Dinner + Concert allows you to have dinner and watch a concert.
Hours of Casa da Música Monday to Saturday | 10:00 to 19:00 Sunday and holidays | 10:00 to 18:00 Show days | Building open until the end of it | Ticket open until 30 minutes after the start.
